The YHWH error … God’s answer
The Bible pictures the Christian life as a long-distance race. The Bible also says that we are in a spiritual battle. Our enemy, the devil, the Bible says, disguises himself as an angel of light. In other words, we are in a fight for the Truth, and there is deception everywhere. It’s all a test of the heart. For the believer with a heart after Truth, God provides help and answers, sometimes in most unexpected ways.
The YHWH error ... God's answer
The Bible reveals God’s plan to bring a people to Himself … from among the Jews and from among the Gentiles.
God won’t patch up and slowly improve this fallen world. He will replace it.
God will bring His people together in Jesus (see Eph 1:10), and when it’s done Jesus will hand over the Kingdom to the Father (see 1 Cor 15:23-28).
Jesus joined to His people, Jew and Gentile. We in Jesus, and He in us. Jesus in the Father … the Father in Him. One (see John 17:20-24).
The Bible reveals God’s plan, and the last three chapters of the last book of the Bible (Rev 20-22) picture the accomplishment of His goal.
Satan is bound (see Rev 20:2) and judged (see Rev 20:10) and Jesus reigns with His people (see Rev 20:4,6). There is a new heavens and a new earth (see Rev 21:1). And Jesus declares: He is the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end (see Rev 21:6 and Rev 22:13)
When the apostle John wrote these words, he was moved by the Holy Spirit (see 2 Peter 1:20-21). Every word John wrote was given to him in precise placement. The open text of the Bible states God’s intentions, but that doesn’t mean we understand everything right away. Jesus said we need eyes to see, and ears to hear.
In other words, there are things revealed in the plain text (which not everyone grasps right away), also there are hints of spiritual mysteries (which may take time for us to grasp), and there are even hidden things … waiting to be revealed, for those with eyes to see.
Here’s another thing … every letter of the Hebrew alphabet of the Old Testament, and every letter of the Greek alphabet of the New Testament, has a numeric value. So every word, and every passage in the Bible has a numeric value. Go to this website (LivingGreekNT.org). You have the Greek text, restored like the original upright script, with numeric values attached.
Revelation chapter 20 has a numeric value (of 206,279), as does Revelation chapter 21 (348,398), and Revelation chapter 22 (283,979). Total for the three chapters (838,656) … a number that breaks down to 26 x 8 x 8 x 8 x 3 x 7 x 3.
Why is this significant?
The name of Jesus in English comes from the Greek word ΙΗΣΟΥΣ. The numeric value of ΙΗΣΟΥΣ is 888.
Also, the Bible says that Jesus is the Word (John 1:1) ... in Greek: ΛΟΓΟΣ. The numeric value of ΛΟΓΟΣ is 373. In the string of numbers: 26 x 8 x 8 x 8 x 3 x 7 x 3.
If just one letter, anywhere in these three last chapters in Revelation was changed or was missing, or if anything was added, then we wouldn’t have this result. It’s precise. And it was arranged this way a long time ago.
Why? Because there is a last-days deception about the name of God. And the numbers are there to confirm Truth … for those with eyes to see.
The Bible says that the only way to God is through Jesus (see John 14:6). The Bible says that there is only one name given among men by which we must be saved (see Acts 4:12). And that name is Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah (see Acts 4:10). There is only one name for salvation … Jesus.
26 x 8 x 8 x 8 x 3 x 7 x 3. And that brings us to the significance of this: 26.
26 is the numeric value of this word ( יהוה) spelled YUD HEH VAV HEH in Hebrew. The word occurs more than 6800 times in the original text of the Old Testament. To Jews, this word is unpronounceable. When reading, and they come to this word, they say “HaShem” (the Name) … or “Adonai” (the Lord).
The word represents the name of the LORD ... it’s a hint of the name of Jesus. To Jews, before Jesus, it was a mystery. It’s not the name of the LORD. The LORD is Jesus, and Jesus is the living Word of God … the Logos.
And that confirms the plain text of the Bible : “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is the LORD, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9). That is the clearest statement in the Bible for salvation. It’s a promise. To be saved, you must confess that Jesus is the LORD. “ … whoever will call on the name of the LORD will be saved.” (Rom 10:13 and Joel 2:32).
When Jews translated the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek, in the years before Jesus, and this word was in the text, they used ΚΥΡΙΟΣ. ΚΥΡΙΟΣ means "Lord" in Greek. When the Jewish disciples of Jesus wrote the New Testament, and they quoted from the Old, and this word (יהוה) was in the text, they used ΚΥΡΙΟΣ. ΚΥΡΙΟΣ is “Lord” in Greek.
It is a modern perversion to substitute English alphabet letters and transform יהוה to JHVH, and add made up vowels and come up with a word like “Jehovah”. The error started in the late 1800’s. That’s when the group that was to become the Jehovah’s Witnesses first emerged.
Up to that time, there was never any variation in Bible translations into English. יהוה was rendered as “the LORD” … with the letters L O R D all in capitals. And the LORD was, and is, Jesus.
The King James Version of the Bible translated it that way. Also English Bibles like the Authorised, the NKJV, the RSV, the Amplified, the ESV, the NASB and the NIV, and almost every significant translation into English, shows this (יהוה) as “the LORD”.
But one translation, the American Standard Version (the ASV), published in 1901, did something different. The ASV rendered יהוה as Jehovah. And the ASV came into prominent use in theological seminaries.
However, you won’t find many Bible-believing Christian churches using the name “Jehovah” today. The Jehovah’s Witnesses are probably responsible for that. The Jehovah’s Witnesses have become an exclusive sect. They don’t want to be associated with mainstream Christianity, and churches don’t want to be linked to them.
So now look what’s happened … (in just the last 20 years) … people have substituted other English alphabet letters and come up with YHWH, and they have added made up vowels and have invented the word YAHWEH.
It possibly started with the World English Bible, which is a revision of the ASV, and then through the Lexham English Bible, published in 2012, it’s been incorporated into popular online Bible software … so it’s use has spread rapidly. It’s dangerous. There is only one name to call on for salvation … Jesus.
Yahweh isn’t a substitute. Yahweh isn’t the name of the Father. Yahweh is an invention ... a very recent invention.
And God sends us a message, in the numeric structure of the last three chapters of the Bible. 26 (the LORD) is Jesus (8 8 8). And Jesus is the Word (3 7 3)
If you have eyes to see, and ears to hear.
